Local disability support charity Sunshine Butterflies today launched their Butterfly Appeal at the Tewantin Community Bendigo Bank Branch, selling ceramic handmade butterflies to raise much-needed funds to complete their new headquarters Our Backyard in Cooroibah.
Their goal is to raise $100,000 to finish capital works and major infrastructure projects at their new base,‘Our Backyard’, a purpose-built 5-acre learning, respite, educational and recreational facility in the Noosa countryside that provides life skills, recreation and learning opportunities to those living with a disability and their families.
Sunshine Butterflies, aims to offer a ‘one-stop-shop’ for disability support services, at this new facility, which is already very well appointed, offering a swimming pool, children’s adventure playground and accessible Tree House, a kitchen for cooking classes, Early Intervention Creative Spaces, Accessible Pool and beautifully landscaped grounds.
‘Our Backyard’ is also home to numerous friendly farm animals that include; Cows, Goats, Sheep, Donkey, Ducks, Chickens, Geese, Guinea Fowls, Peacock, a Pig and a miniature Horse. These furry and feathered friends share the paddocks and stable yards, and help deliver animal therapy and animal care enrichment programs to individuals living with disability.
Their enormous new Activities Shed is currently under construction and due for completion by the end of April.
The Butterfly Appeal was launched in conjunction with the local Bendigo Community Bank branches, who are getting behind the appeal, and helping to ‘paint the town purple’ in an effort to bring awareness to the new appeal.
Tewantin’s Community Bank Branch of Bendigo Bank helped to kick start the campaign with a donation of $5,000 towards the construction of the new ‘Family Central’ facilities, which will allow Sunshine Butterflies to provide crucial Advisory and Counselling services to people living with a disability and their families, as well as Respite, Play and other therapeutic services such as Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy and much more.
The butterflies, handmade and glazed by our members with a disability who attend our ‘Kiss My Art’ program, range in price from $10 to $10,000. Once purchased, your name will be added to the butterfly, and they will then be hung onsite on our Tree of Change for everyone to enjoy.
